2018 Hyundai Elantra GT : what the media is saying

The Hyundai Elantra was completely redesigned back in 2016, and now it’s time for the hatchback version to receive a complete makeover. The 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT is improved in every single way, and with a starting price of just 20 449 $, it is certainly an affordable way to get behind the wheel of a versatile vehicle that is also fun to drive and fuel-efficient.

The media recently had a chance to get behind the wheel of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra. Here’s what they had to say.

Looking similar in front to the smart, new Elantra Sedan, the GT isn’t, however, just a hatchback version of the sedan with a fifth door slapped on the back: The GT gets a unique engine, individual wheelbase for a sportier ride, and an interior that’s more advanced than the sedan, complete with standard eight-inch colour touchscreen.

Now in its fourth generation after the debut of the first Elantra GT in 2001, the GT’s design gives it a clear identity with no awkwardness of before. Short overhangs in front and rear, an integrated rear spoiler and wraparound rear glass with dual exhaust on Sport models, the GT is now as sophisticated as (and maybe even more so than) its direct competitors — the Honda Civic, VW Golf, Mazda3 or Ford Focus. There’s a shark-like resemblance to it. Only the high mount reflectors look misplaced, but they’ll probably not look so unusual over time.  Driving.ca

The sporty 2018 Elantra GT hatchback comes equipped with a 162-hp, 150-lb-ft of torque 2.0-liter I-4 that comes mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The GT Sport hatchback and Sport sedan are powered by a more powerful 201-hp, 195-lb-ft of torque 1.6-liter turbo-four that comes mated to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission – MotorTrend

The Elantra GT’s steering is light, but precise, and the hatchback feels planted—albeit a little heavy—in cornering. These are mostly good things, and the comparison to a Volkswagen GTI is a fair one to make – The Car Connection
