Hyundai’s first subcompact SUV, the brand new Hyundai Kona, made its North American debut today at the Los Angeles International Auto Show after having been unveiled a few months ago in Korea. The Hyundai Kona will join the Hyundai Tucson as well as the Santa Fe in the Hyundai SUV lineup, and it will try to stand out in its segment with a host of impressive features from both the technology and safety standpoint.
A lot of tech in the new Hyundai Kona
The Hyundai Kona will surely stand out in its segment when it comes to safety and connectivity technologies. Firstly, every Hyundai Kona will come with advanced connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which ensure a seamless integration between your vehicle and your smartphone.
Next, the new Kona will come with a host of advanced safety features that use both a radar and a camera to ensure that the driver and his or her passengers are always protected from whatever danger the road can throw at them. The Kona will indeed feature a lane keeping assist system, attention assist, high beam assist, rear-cross traffic alert, and blind spot detection.
A unique platform and an impressive powertrain lineup for the new Hyundai Kona
The new Kona will be built on Hyundai’s unique platform built using a high concentration of high-strength steel which translates into a sharper ride, better handling, improved comfort, and impressive safety. This is made possible by the fact that this platform is a lot more rigid than most other similar structures in this segment and price range, and the stiffness of the platform means that it protects occupants better while also doing a better job of stabilizing the vehicle and reducing vibrations.
Two engines will be offered in the brand new Hyundai Kona, starting with a four-cylinder offering that delivers 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. Next up is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that provides 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. This is one of the only turbocharged engines in the subcompact SUV segment, and it should prove to provide a very impressive blend of both performance and fuel economy.
