Hyundai is known as a maker of fuel-efficient, safe, reliable and versatile vehicles that are quite popular with Canadian consumers. In actuality, Hyundai has no reason to change its philosophy or look into the high-performance vehicle segment, but that doesn’t mean it won’t. Enter the spectacular Hyundai RN30 Concept unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.

Hyundai RN30: track-ready performance wrapped in a stunning design

Ever since the Hyundai RN30 Concept was unveiled, it has been making headlines everywhere it’s been shown, and it’s not only because of its stunning design. Indeed, the Hyundai RN30 hints a future lineup of high-performance vehicles built by Hyundai wearing the “N” badge that symbolizes Hyundai’s performance division. The latter was launched at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show, and if the RN30 Concept is any indication, the “N” brands potential is limitless.

The RN30 Concept is built for the track with a built-in roll cage and naked interior where everything is put in place to save weight. On the other hand, the concept’s vertical doors, aggressive aerodynamic kit and massive rims give it a tuner-car look that somehow works very well. A set of cameras are installed all over the body and cockpit in order to record every facet of the race including the driver’s reactions in real-time. The body was built in collaboration with BASF and is made of lightweight yet very resistant plastics.

Incredible power under the RN30’s hood

The Hyundai RN30 Concept is powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 375 horsepower and 332 lb.-ft. of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels using a dual-clutch automatic transmission. As you can, the RN30’s design may be a bit out-of-this-world, but its powertrain isn’t. As a matter of fact, this engine seems to be production-ready and would certainly turn any vehicle into an instant WRX STi or Ford Focus RS competitor.

Maybe that’s what Hyundai has in mind for its RN30 Concept. We will have to wait to find out more. In the meantime, you can contact us at Gyro Hyundai to learn more about Hyundai’s extensive lineup of new vehicles and sport utility vehicles.
